Mushrooms in the Moss

Mushrooms in the Moss, originally uploaded by Jim Arnold (jga154).
After recently submitting this photo to Enjoy Magazine, for the "Enjoy The View" page, I was pleased to have been contacted and asked for a hi res file. I believe it will be published in the March or April issue.

I find it kind of amazing that the Whiskeytown National Recreation Area is known mostly for swimming, boating and hiking (which are not bad things). If you visit any of the creeks or shaded areas after a good rain in the winter or spring the photography is quite plentiful. Especially the macro photography of lichens, mushrooms, mossy stuff, and other fungus.

This shot was taken on a mossy log after just such a rain. I used a 105mm macro lens on a sturdy tripod to take it. A tripod is a must as there is very little light where these grow and the shutter speed for this was 4 sec. at f25.
